Canvassing for Opinion - aka "Blairs Brain on Cannabis"

IMHO prohibition sentiment requires inherent addiction to status quo, an incapacity to visualise beyond the here and now and a desperate desire to know others might feel the same... Reform is not revolutionary, rather it is evolutionary. Having survived banging your head against a brick wall the evolutionist relishes having stopped. / Blair

Trademe Questionnaire on Medical Marijuana

The failing in discussions surrounding medicinal herb is that it does an injustice to the bigger issue. It is not up to a doctor to decide who gets it... when, where and how much.

Informed Consent is at the core of what is broken. Continuing politicisation will only result in suboptimal solution.

The right to posses cannabis is a barren right without the right to cultivate, trade (or exchange), store, process and enjoy.

Not only are we lucky to have a plant that mimics (and supplements) our OWN cannabinoids in a functional way, it is OUR absolute right to determine that relationship.

The powerful characteristics of cannabinoids (exo and endo) to mediate 'homeostasis' the essential balancing of our energy systems at sub-cellular and intracellular levels is truly amazing. We should not be surprised however that this is so, this sophisticated system has evolved over 600million years and is all the more important the higher up the evolutionary scale.

Cannabinoids relationship with governance of free radicals lends to this plant the term "oil of life". The plant is symbiotically associated with us. There's a good reason the law will never work, we (some of us) are genetically preconditioned - no law will "tell us' what to think. If the law is there to send a message then a lot of us are 'evidentially' quite simply not listening.

But Cannabis is not just about how it might affect you or me.. and gawd knows we are all different, it transcends the relationship with body systems and its efficacy in cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine, immune, nerve, reproductive, respiratory and musculo-skeletal mediation. The properties of Cannabis has social, political and economic qualities. (just try banning it and see what happens)

"Presently, mankind is engaged in an evolutionary battle between more primitive members of a relatively cannabinoid deficient population and those relatively more endowed. The outcome of this genetic conflict may determine mans survival" - Robert Melamede, UofColorado, Chair/Biology Dept.

(And Jim Anderton thinks this is just a fringe issue... /Blair)

Here in California, at present, and the federal government notwithstanding, cannabis is legal when recommended by a physician and not thereby limited to a certain amount, except as the state contends to restrict the amount a patient may possess at one time.

It is not perfect and it should be entirely legal, but for those who are sick and in need of medical cannabis it does provide a workable solution for most patients if the federal government would leave it be. Since they will not, neither will we settle for a compromise at this time.
