Canvassing for Opinion - aka "Blairs Brain on Cannabis"

IMHO prohibition sentiment requires inherent addiction to status quo, an incapacity to visualise beyond the here and now and a desperate desire to know others might feel the same... Reform is not revolutionary, rather it is evolutionary. Having survived banging your head against a brick wall the evolutionist relishes having stopped. / Blair

This was a screw up. He got 7½ yrs for it. And it is deserved. He took it while on duty and with the intent to resell. That makes him no better than any other smuggler/dealer.

Thank you Al, for clarifying the sentence duration.

He screwed up alright, but on balance, he was screwed too. And no differently from most of us.

I have no dispute with the facts, he stole. The evidence was tampered with.

I agree with the facts as they appear, just not the outcome.

Be it Seven or Seventy years, incarcerating someone for what? an anomolous law? rid the world of pot? that it will send a message? Is immoral? Is exacting a seven year sentence on an individual going to produce a useful outcome? What outcome is sought? All I see is perpetuation of the prison industrial estate.

Have such sentences stopped 'police dishonesty' surrounding this herb?

Police corruption surrounding cannabis and other drugs is multivarious and largely underreported. You know it, I know it, and I suspect most thinking public know it.

This 'crime' occured by very accident of cannabis's crimonogenic qualities... the laws that surround it. They incentivise it. His actions are a manufactured harm, not only to him directly but all who pay the bill for all the biopsychosocial 'outcomes'. There are the obvious ones. Kids loose fathers, mothers loose sons. Wives, husbands and of course, brothers, both kin and in arms.

An unintended cost includes the communities 'loss of faith' in policing per se.

This man has embarrased himself 'before the law, his profession and the community' in another time and another place, the cannabis just wouldn't have been there let alone [and ironically by dint of his very enforcment] worth its weight in gold.

Were the blocks of cannabis 'by value, weight and measure' gold krugerands, each and everyone would be accounted for. But alas, cannabis is but a weed. Easily replaceable. One only needs to 'hold the law in contempt' as each and every one of the 25Million odd Americans who do on a regular basis... and then the errant cop becomes just 'one of us'.

Thank you again Al, for clarifying the sentence duration.

Perhaps you might like to contribute how worthwhile a job Border Partol is knowing that without cannabis prohibition many of your fellow officers, families and friends would be safer and more secure today?

    I commend you to http://www.LEAP.CC
